With about two weeks to go and it looking pretty clear that we weren’t going to get our permit in time to pour the foundations and build the bridge in place, we decided to switch gears and pre-fab the entire bridge next the site in order to complete the project by August 2.  Of course, we consulted with our structural engineer, Ed Medlock, and our local crane experts (Dover Crane) to make sure this was possible (picking up a 19,000 lb bridge underneath another bridge doesn’t happen everyday).  We had to make some on-site structural adjustments, so the bridge wouldn’t shift or torque when it was picked up.  Thanks again to Shawn Oldham for doing some heroic on-site welding in some tough spots.
